This distillery project provided unique challenges and unique opportunities. A geothermal heat pump by its very design moves heat from an area that it is not wanted/needed to an area that it is. If you have simultaneous loads (somewhere that you want heat and somewhere that don’t), you have a great application for added net efficiency.

In this case, there was process hot water, wash hot water, space heating and space cooling required. The majority of the time when the waste process heat is collected from the building (to cool the building), a large portion of it will be returned to the process water and wash water. If the loads are not balance, the heatpump will draw or reject heat to the ground loop.
