This facility in Delta, BC is now capturing abundant solar energy for heating the community centre pool and domestic hot water loads. This solar pool heating system is designed to operate reliably year round and it will contribute a significant portion of the building’s energy needs.
The powerful solar array is more than 125 m² and is made up of 1260 Apricus evacuated tubes! All of the solar collectors are mounted on a single rack connected directly to building steel via weather proof roof penetrations.
The drainback system design maximizes the pool’s large thermal mass for storage. It also utilizes gravity for failsafe overheat and freeze protection while also reducing maintenance costs.
This project, completed in partnership with Terratek Energy Solutions, is a great example of renewable energy technology in the greater Vancouver area.
